GINGRICH HAD AFFAIR DURING CLINTON-LEWINSKY PROBE

You can't make this stuff up.

Newt Gingrich says he had an extramarital affair during the same period he was leading the charge in the House to impeach Bill Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky episode.

The Associated Press reports Gingrich admitted to the affair in an interview with the self-appointed watchdog of the nation's morals - Focus on the Family's James Dobson.

Here's a snippet from the AP story:
"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

One man's falling short of God's standards is another man's impeachable offense.

Although Gingrich would argue that point. He says he wasn't being hypocritcal in pursuing Clinton's ouster while doing some cheating of his own.

"The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge," the former Georgia congressman said of Clinton's 1998 House impeachment on perjury and obstruction of justice charges. "I drew a line in my mind that said, 'Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept ... perjury in your highest officials."
What a selfless, heroic and patriotic act Newt!
Risking your own personal embarassment to do your duty as a statesman.
Of course if you weren't hassling Clinton over something that was his own personal affair he wouldn't have been sitting in front of that federal judge.
Oh, and one other thing. You say you "cannot accept ... perjury in your highest officials." So we're gonna put you down as opposed to any pardon of Scooter Libby. Right?
Thank God this country has patriots like you Newt!
