CAMPAIGN NOTES:
HARKIN WON'T BACK HILLARY;
McCAIN, ROMNEY EYE CAMPAIGN MANAGERS
Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin had breakfast with Hillary Clinton yesterday, but the Cornhusker state Democrat said he's sticking with the state's homegrown candidate Gov. Tom Vilsack for the party's presidential nomination in 2008.
Meanwhile, Hotline is reporting today, based on its sources, that Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is likely to pick his top aide Beth Myers as his campaign manager if/when he runs for the GOP presidential nomination.
And, The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza has the rundown on two key positions today in the McCain campaign.
Cillizza, quoting a source close the McCain campaign says the campaign manager will be Terry Nelson, national political director for President Bush's 2004 campaign.
The Post also reports Republican National Committee Communications Director Brian Jones will take the post of press secretary in the McCain campaign.
Nelson has been a bit of a controversial figure, having headed up the Republican National Committee's indpendent expenditure efforts this year - which including paying for the controversial "Call Me Later Harold" ad that stained the race for Senate in Tennessee this year. Nelson also had some ties to the "phone jamming" case in New Hampshire.
